Dear SGMP Florida Capital Chapter and Central Florida Satellite Chapter Members,

How are you? Hopefully these are already in your calendar, but if not, it’s not too late. We have two great events tonight and next week for networking, education, and sharing resources. I encourage your active participation including in leadership roles in our chapter. Please reach out to me if you have interest (we are seeking a 1st VP currently due to an upcoming vacancy, and we have committee roles available too), and mark your calendar for the next events. Our educational events are hybrid so you can participate online or in person, and you can keep updated at https://sgmpfl.org .

Leading with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
There has never been a more important time to develop leadership skills to embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This session goes beyond awareness to explore ways that participants can use emotional intelligence and humility to create a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming environment as meeting planners and suppliers inside your organization as well as to those served. Attendees will develop strategies to improve DEI efforts as well as examine the consequences of not doing so.

Be the end of this session, participants should be able to:
Define and differentiate the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Explain how DEI benefits meeting planners, suppliers, and those they serve.
Discuss the importance of leadership characteristics needed for effective DEI efforts.
Critically examine their own personal beliefs, attitudes, and biases about historically marginalized people and cultures.
Describe the negative impacts of people in leadership roles who do not adopt an inclusive mentality.
Develop an action plan for improvement.

Warm regards,
Gabrielle K. Gabrielli, Ph.D.
